JC10085.  Pyromorphite.  Roughton Gill, Caldbeck, Allerdale, Cumbria, England, United Kingdom.   10 x 14.5 cm  736g.  $750.00.  Lustrous, translucent, textbook hexagonal, classic oil-green prisms, to 8 mm, are coated on both sides of the quartz matrix. The pyromorphites have three types of terminations - flat, hoppered and the rare club-shaped. The piece is probably from the famous Roughton Gill Mine or the Driggith Mine. Old material dating to the 1800s, as lead mining effectively ceased around Caldbeck Fells in 1876. The century-plus old label on the piece is incorrect. Pyromorphite is phosphate of lead, NOT a diarseniate of lead. .   Previous dealer had it priced at $1,400.00.  There are 3 old label/number markings on the piece. SOLD

JC9784. Pyromorphite.  Daoping mine, Gongcheng county, Guilin prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, China  4.5 x 6 cm  126g.  $28.00.   Pale green crystals from this noteworthy location in China.   Bright luster on the crystals.
JC9480.  Pyromorphite.  Herdorf, Siegerland, Rhineland Palatinate, Germany.   8 x 10 cm  408g. $289.00 Up to 1.5 cm crystals, average 1 cm.  Color is a beige to gray.  A few broken crystals are present.  This is from the Kay Robertson collection, and she purchased the specimen from Sol Shale in 1967.   The location is a bit of a question.  Kay's label gives the Wolf mine as the locality, and this seems pretty unlikely as pyromorphite is not recorded from there.   Another possibility in this district is the San Fernando mine.   Large crystals for either location.  Kaye had two specimens like this, one about 15 cm and this one, both very similar to each other.    A real mystery specimen, I went through all 322 pages of pyromorphite photographs of specimens from around the world in Mindat, and none matched the two pieces Kaye had.    The larger piece, not shown here, had Kaye's Collection #5200.    Probably old-time material, but no proof.  Possible mines for this piece are the Quarries mine, Musen; the Victoria mine, Littfeld; and the New Hope mine, Wilnsdorf.

Shoobridge, Norther Territory, Australia.   5 x 6.8 cm  223g.   $175.00.   A nearly solid mass of yellow green/lime green crystals.   These are from a little mining venture to procure pyromorphite specimens from this prospect.  The find is quite limited, and very few specimens were produced.  A rather different locality and not related to the Rum Jungle locality.

JC9459.  Pyromorphite.  Daoping mine, Gongcheng county, Guilin prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, China. 3 x 5 cm  52g.  $30.00.   Lime green crystals.   Lime green crystals are less common at Daoping than the yellow green typically seen.
JC9459.  A little more light in this photo.
JC9445.  Pyromorphite.  Little Giant mine, nr. Mullan, Coeur d'Alene district, Shoshone county, Idaho.   5.5 x 10 cm  296g.  $150.00.   I collected the Little Giant in 1970, and sold most of the specimens collected.  At that time pyromorphite was very abundant in the mine, and it was obvious it had not been heavily collected.   Later, commercial collectors pretty much cleaned the place out of decent specimens.  This is one of the pieces from the 1970 effort.    Somewhat grayish green crystals on a hard metamorphic rock.   Typical of the material available at that time.
JC9439.   Pyromorphite.  Les Farges mine, Ussel, Correze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France.  3.5 x 7 cm  100g.  $150.00  Piled up grouping of olive green crystals on quartz.

JC4276.  Pyromorphite. Daoping Lead-Zinc mine, Goncheng county, Guilin prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, China.  5.5 x 9 cm wide.    180g.  $350.00.   Large, odd green crystals from the Daoping mine.  There are several broken crystals, which keeps this from being in the $1,000 + range.  Apparently this was a one pocket find, and they have pretty much gone from the market already.  Of the ones I saw, nearly all that were reasonably priced had some broken crystals...whether this happened in collecting, transport, or naturally, I don't know.  SOLD
