JC9894.  Andradite.  Bendougou village, Arrondissement Diakon, Commune Diakon, Cercle de Bafoulabe, Kayes region, Mali.   8 x 10 cm  365g.  $80.00.   Several brilliant luster black andradite crystals.  There are some nearly black acicular crystals perched down in the garnet crystals that I am guessing are one of the varieties of hornblende.  There are a few greenish, somewhat acicular epidote crystals of small size here and there on the specimen.   The black andradite from here is frequently referred to as melanite, however melanite has a titanium component in the formula and I am not sure these qualify as melanite.    ON SALE, TAKE 40% OFF THE MARKED PRICE

JC9840.    Andradite.  Bendougou village, Arrondissement Diakon, Commune Diakon, Cercle de Bafoulabe, Kayes region, Mali.  5 x 6.5 cm  163g.  $50.00.  A group of black crystals.  The crystals are zoned, with a brown core and black outer rim.   Luster is bright, just short of glassy.   There is one broken crystal on the display side, on the bottom center, visible in this photo.    The black andradite from here is frequently referred to as melanite, however melanite has a titanium component in the formula and I am not sure these qualify as melanite.  The dealer brought these over from Mali in barrels with no padding, and the specimens were still covered with their original dirt.  There are minor dings here and there because of the way they were shipped over to the U.S.    ON SALE, TAKE 40% OFF THE MARKED PRICE

JC9504.  Andradite.  Garnet Hill mine, Garnet Hill, Calaveras county, California.  5 x 8.5 cm  180g.  $75.00.  Nice hand specimen from this well known locality.   Brilliant luster root beer brown crystals with a hint of reddish brown.  This specimen was broken out of a quartz block, and a few of the crystals left their corners in the quartz, which is quite common for these specimens.   This is the case for the largest central crystal in the right center, where the left corner is missing a bit.   Generally good condition for one of these, and probably dates back 20 years or more.  Nothing has come from the mine recently, as it has been very heavily collected.    ON SALE, TAKE 40% OFF THE MARKED PRICE
