Gemmy, transparent, glassy luster, without the internal fracturing so common on barites from here. Very pretty, with almost no damage, except on the edges. There is a small saw mark on the front of the matrix as can be seen in the photo. Very nice crystals. They are slightly darker in real life, and highly translucent to transparent in places. The larger crystal has been repaired along a cleavage line near the matrix, which cannot be seen except with the closest inspection. I lowered the price from $300 when the crystal fell off and I repaired it. ON SALE, TAKE 60% OFF THE MARKED PRICE. | |

JC11786. Beryllonite.
Dara-e-Pech pegmatite field, Dara-e-Pech district, Kunar, Afghanistan.
3.5 x 5.5 cm $500.00 The finest examples of Beryllonite
are those from Afghanistan. This rare sodium beryllium phosphate is often
found in smaller, nondescript specimens from various other pegmatite
localities around the world, but the specimens from Afghanistan are
incredibly well-formed, large and beautiful. This piece is a good-sized,
sharp, well-formed, euhedral, pseudo-hexagonal (monoclinic) crystal group of
Beryllonite showing the typical heavily striated prism edges, free of
matrix. The piece is actually a complete "floater" with no damage or point
of attachment anywhere. This piece dates back to the mid to late 1990s, when
some of the best examples of the material came out of Afghanistan.
Specimens are virtually not available for sale these days. One dealer
had one very similar to this one in size etc. for $2,500.00 ON

Back in the late 1880's and early 1900's, the Viola mine was one of the largest producers of lead, zinc, and silver in Idaho. It had a thriving town, now gone. JC11399. Calcite. Black
Jack (Ruby) mine, Imlay district, Pershing county, Nevada.
5 x 6.5 cm 91g. $18.00 An old, obscure mercury
mine, I visited in 1983, and found at the end of one adit, an old water
course that was filled with cave type calcite, including many
helictites, as well as crystalline
calcite. The calcite shows two generations, the first as a yellowish
core, visible on some pieces, followed by brilliant, clear, gemmy calcite in
various forms and crystals.
Piece is covered with mostly squatty "sharks tooth" like crystals (modified scalenohedrons), as well as more blocky modified rhombohedral crystals. ON SALE, TAKE 60% OFF THE MARKED PRICE. |
