JC9070.  Amethystine, grape agate/grape chalcedony?  Manakarra beach?, West Sulawesi, Indonesia.   7 x 9 cm  137g.  $125.00.   There was quite a bit of this stuff scattered around the Tucson show, 2018.  The only definitive location is Sulawesi...I have not seen an exact verified location as yet.  Manakarra beach is consistant amongst several dealers, so for now I'm going with that.  The poorer quality material is off color, with the better stuff a nice lavender/amethyst color.  The poorer material does not have any luster, whereas the better material has a nice shine of minute, microscopic, quartz? that makes up the chalcedony.  Prices are all over the place, and surprisingly high considering the abundance of material.   I picked up two, with nice luster and color of intermediate quality.   ON SALE, DEDUCT 60% FROM LISTED PRICE.

JC11230.   Quartz.  Corral Canyon, Copper Valley district, Pershing county, Nevada.  A 12 cm tall crystal.  362g.  $20.00.  This one formed on the bottom of the pocket, so the back side was broken at some point, and then has re-healed with small sparkly quartz faces.   This particular pocket has on every specimen an area on the side or on the termination or base of what looks like orangish hematite.  It lies under a very thin layer of later formed quartz.  I can't really call it a phantom, as it is only partial on most pieces.     On this crystal it is a small patch on the back side, and can be seen in the photo below.   The luster is very close to glassy on the front side and satiny on the back.   ON SALE, TAKE 60% OFF THE MARKED PRICE.

Adam peak, east side Osgood mountains, Potosi district, Humboldt county, Nevada.   5 x 6 cm  91g with stand.  $30.00.   A doubly terminated crystal, a little crude in shape.  These quartz crystals come from an old, and long since dormant hot spring occurrence on the east side of Adam peak.  Originally it was open to the air, and specimens could be collected from down in the throat of the dried up spring.  Many crystals were sand blasted on one side, where sand laden water surged against the crystals and literally rounded them off over time.   The occurrence is now filled in and any remaining crystals are deeply buried.   These are a few examples of specimens from this rather unique occurrence.   Collected about 20 years ago.       ON SALE, TAKE 60% OFF THE MARKED PRICE.

I first collected these black vesuvianites from the Bill Waley Indian Allotment tungsten mine in Drum Valley, CA in 1972. They were in a cave type area in the mine, where the calcite had been dissolved away leaving the vesuvianite.   I wrote the location up in "California Geology", October 1974. Vol. 27, Article title: Loellingite and Black Vesuvianite from Tulare county, California. Pages 224-226. California Div. of Mines and Geology publication.  I long since sold my share.    My collecting partner, at the time, has had these stashed away ever since.  He recently found them in his storage and asked me to put them on the site, so here they are.  Mostly of interest as an odd color, and somewhat strange form for vesuvianite.  A one time find, nothing is left of these, and rare occurrence for vesuvianite.   It has been suggested that these might be wiluite...I compared the x-ray diffraction pattern I took of these, and it appears to be closer to vesuvianite, although the diffraction pattern for wiluite and vesuvianite are very close in appearance.
